Everything you need to know about switching electricity providers in Texas.

Mr Energy TX is a group of energy brokers who assist customers in choosing an electricity provider. We eliminate the endless surfing of various websites, clicking through dozens of confusing rates and terms, getting put on hold and the general inefficiency with larger providers.

An energy broker is a professional or company that acts as a middle-man between energy suppliers and customers. Their primary role is to assist in the selection of the energy provider, terms, and rates on behalf of their clients.

An energy broker can generally offer better electricity rates than the retail market due to the higher volume of customers they provide service for and because of the numerous business relationships they have with the retail electricity providers (REP's). Also, brokers are paid by the REP not the customer so the service is FREE!

Yes there is a soft credit check for both residential and commercial customers, performed by the energy provider. Frequently a security deposit may be required.

There are many variables that go into the cost of your electricity bill. Some of these variables include your current retail rate, the square footage of your home, the type of heating (gas vs. electric), your habits as a customer, the condition of your HVAC system, insulation quality, seasonality, sun exposure, pool equipment, household size, and current market conditions. In general, lower rates result in lower costs.

Space heaters & heating/cooling, water heater, swimming pool pump, refrigerator, clothes dryer, and lighting. It is worth noting that gas heat is much cheaper than electrical.

There are numerous electricity companies because Texas is a deregulated state. This is a result of legislation that was introduced in 2002 to allow competition in the retail electricity market to primarily lower prices for consumers and encourage innovation. Deregulation created numerous energy providers all seeking to make a profit.

Yes, it does. In the majority of the state of Texas electricity comes from the same place or "GRID" otherwise known as ERCOT. The grid produces approximately 90% of the states power from a combination of natural gas, wind, solar, nuclear and coal.

TDU is a Transmission and Distribution Utility. The TDU is the "physical" part of electricity distribution – poles, wires, substations and electrical meters are all part of the infrastructure that transmits electricity from the GRID to your home or business. The six TDUs serving Texas are: American Electric Power TX Central (AEP), AEP Texas North, CenterPoint Energy, Lubbock Power and Light (LP&L), Oncor Electric Delivery, and Texas-New Mexico Power (TNMP).

While the Texas electricity market is deregulated, not all areas have the same level of choice when it comes to selecting a retail electricity provider. If you're unable to choose, it's likely because you reside in an area where deregulation has not been fully implemented, and some areas may still be served by traditional monopoly utilities like an electrical cooperative (Co-op), municipal owned utility, or a utility that's not part of ERCOT.
